The Geo-Filter feature on Nighthawk Pro Gaming routers lets you designate specific areas and ranges of online gaming servers to connect to. You can control in-game lag by limiting the distance of the game servers and players your devices connect to. By default, no devices are added to the Geo-Filter and the filter is not in effect. To start using the Geo-Filter, you must add a device, specify the country or state in which your device is located, and set the distance radius for the filter.

The basic steps to set up the Geo-Filter are the same on all Nighthawk Pro Gaming routers. On routers with DumaOS 3.0, you can also set up Geo Fencing shapes for more detailed control of the Geo-Filter.

To set up the Geo-Filter feature on your Nighthawk Pro Gaming router:

  1. Launch a web browser from a computer that is connected to your router’s network.
  2. Visit www.routerlogin.net.
  3. Enter your router’s user name and password.
    The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time that you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
    The Dashboard displays.
  4. Select Geo-Filter.
    A map displays.
  5. Add a device to the Geo-Filter:
    1. Click ADD DEVICE.
      A list of devices detected on your network display.
    2. Select your device.
    3. Click NEXT.
      A list of games displays.
    4. Select a game.
    5. Click NEXT.
      If your device is a console, filtering mode is enabled, which means that the router blocks connections outside your distance radius. If your device is not a console, filtering mode is disabled, which means that the router does not block connections outside of your distance radius.
    6. Either override the suggested filter mode (not recommended) or click CONTINUE > FINISH.
  6. In the Geo-Filter Map pane, set your home area by clicking the player icon and moving the icon onto the map to your location.
  7. Set the distance radius by moving the Set Distance slider.
    We recommend that you set a distance radius in a range from 500 km to 3,000 km (311 mi. to 1,864 mi.). All connections outside of the radius are prevented from hosting your game.
    Note: If you set a radius that is less than 500 km (311 mi.), you might not find games to join. If you set a radius that is more than 3,000 km (1,864 mi.), you might not find high-quality connections.
  8. (Optional) To load the recommended Geo-Filter settings for your game (which override your manual distance radius settings):
    1. In the Geo-Filter Map pane, click the PROFILES button. The Profile Selector window displays.
    2. Select a game.
    3. Click DONE.
    Your Geo-Filter settings are saved.

(Optional) To draw Geo Fencing areas on DumaOS 3.0 routers:

  1. In the Geo-Filter Map pane, click the Polygon Mode button.
    The button displays red and Polygon Mode is enabled.
  2. Click the pencil icon.
    Drawing Mode is enabled.
  3. Draw your home area by clicking a point on the map, drawing a line to a second point, clicking again, and so on until you connect the last line to your first point.
  4. Draw one or more areas for the servers, host, or other players by following the same process.
  5. When you are finished drawing, exit Drawing Mode by clicking the X.
    Note: To remove an area that you drew, click the trash can icon to enable Deletion Mode, and then click the area on the map. To disable Deletion Mode, click the trash can icon again. All connections from outside the areas that you drew are blocked.
  6. (Optional) To allow or block servers, hosts, and players from outside the areas that you drew using Ping Assist:
    • Allow: Move the Ping Assist slider to the maximum ping value in milliseconds (ms) that you want to allow for servers, hosts, and players outside your radius. You can also enter the ping value in the field to the right of the slider. We recommend that you set your Ping Assist value between 30 ms and 50 ms.
    • Block: To disable the Ping Assist option, move the Ping Assist slider all the way to the left or enter 0 in the field to the right of the slider.
    Servers, hosts, and players from outside the areas you drew are allowed or blocked based on your Ping Assist settings.
