Not what you're looking for? Return to the ReadyNAS Not Accessible FAQ.
Your ReadyNAS is online; however, you cannot access your data. This is most likely due to permissions or network access rights issue.
The following articles point to methods for checking and setting the correct Network Access and also File Access permissions to shares and their subfolders depending on the security method used on your ReadyNAS. There are two security methods on the ReadyNAS, Local user mode and Active Directory (AD) mode.
Local user mode: The user accounts to access the ReadyNAS shares are created and stored on the ReadyNAS. File permissions to the shares are set through the ReadyNAS local admin page.
Active Directory mode: The ReadyNAS is joined into an Active Directory using the Authentication mechanism in the local admin page under System > Accounts > Authentication.
File permissions can be set through file properties dialogue in Windows Explorer. In AD mode it is also possible to set the permissions in the ReadyNAS local admin page.
Network Access:
Check the correct Network Access is configured on the share. If you do not have sufficient Network Access rights to access a share you will not be able to browse into the share. To check the relevant network access rights are configured see Set Network Access Rights to Shared Folders
File Access:
If you can browse to the share but you receive a permissions error when trying to open a subfolder or a file, please proceed to check the File Access permissions on the share - How do I change default access rights to files and folders on my ReadyNAS OS 6 storage system?
If your ReadyNAS is joined to a domain it is possible to set the permissions through the File properties menu in Windows Explorer. To check security settings on a share and its subfolders when the ReadyNAS is joined to a Domain, please see Setting Active Directory folder permissions on ReadyNAS OS
Resetting permissions on a share:
If you are still experiencing a permissions problem in accessing the data on your ReadyNAS you can reset the permissions on the problematic share. This is used when permissions are not working as expected and users are incorrectly or inadvertently being denied access to individual files or folders inside the share. This procedure will reset the security settings on all files and folders within the share, but the Network Access settings will remain unchanged - How do I restore default file and shared folder access rights on my ReadyNAS OS 6 storage system?
