We recommend that you enable 2FA to provide increased security for your NETGEAR account. For more information, see What is two-factor authentication (2FA) and why might I want to enable it for my NETGEAR account?

To set up two-factor authentication (2FA) for your NETGEAR account using the Nighthawk or Orbi app:

  1. Launch the Nighthawk or Orbi app on the mobile device that you want to use for 2FA.
    The dashboard displays.
  2. In the top-left corner, tap the Home or Cloud icon.The icon varies depending on your router’s settings.
  3. Tap Account Management > Login Settings > Two-Step Verification.
  4. Select Enable.
  5. Select Push Notifications or SMS as your preferred verification method.
  6. Tap Continue.
    If you selected SMS as your preferred verification method:
    1. Enter the phone number of the device you want to receive login codes.
    2. Tap Continue.
      A 6-digit verification code is sent to your device via SMS.
    3. Enter the 6-digit code you just received.
    4. Tap Continue.
  7. Tap Approve to add your current device as the primary 2FA device.
  8. (Optional) Tap Rename Device to change the name of your device that is displayed in your NETGEAR account.You can also do this later from the Two-Step Verification menu.
  9. Tap Continue to complete 2FA setup.
    2FA is now enabled for your NETGEAR account and device.
