After you create a volume
To create a share:
- Log in to the Admin page.
- Select Shares > Shares.
A list of shares and LUNs on each volume displays.
- Click the New Share button to the right of the volume to which you want to add a share.
- Configure the settings as explained in the following table:
Item Description Name A unique name to identify the share. Do not include spaces in the name. Description An optional description to help identify the share. Bit Rot Protection (Copy-on-write) Select this check box to enable bit-rot protection. Enabling bit-rot protection also enables copy-on-write. Over time, copy-on-write increases fragmentation and can lead to a decrease in performance. Compression Select this check box to enable data compression. Compression saves storage space and increases the speed of data transfers, but the compression and decompression processes require additional resources. Compression is only available when bit-rot protection is enabled. Snapshot Schedule
Select how often snapshots are taken. Available options are described below.
- Never. No snapshots are taken.
- Hourly. A snapshot is taken every hour on the hour.
- Daily. A snapshot is taken every day at midnight.
- Weekly. A snapshot is taken every week on Friday at 23:59.

Protocol Select the check box next to each file-sharing protocol that you want to enable on the shared folder. For information about these protocols, see File Sharing Protocols.
Size Select the Size check box to enable quotas. Enter the quota and make a selection from the menu (MB for megabytes, GB for gigabytes or TB for terabytes. - Click the Create button.
