You can change the wireless mode (link rate) on your NETGEAR router to set the maximum connection speed for devices connected to each band.
By default, NETGEAR routers are set to the maximum supported link rate to provide the fastest connection speeds for your devices. You might want to lower the link rate to throttle connection speeds for devices connected to a specific band. To change the wireless mode (link rate) on your NETGEAR router:
- Launch a web browser from a device that is connected to your router's network.
- Enter www.routerlogin.net.
- Enter your user name and password.
The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time that you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
The BASIC Home page or Dashboard displays. - Select Wireless.
Some models might have slightly different navigation, like Settings > Wireless Setup.
The Wireless Setup page displays. - Scroll down to the wireless band that you want to change the wireless mode for.
For example, to change the wireless mode for the 5 GHz band channel, scroll down to the 5GHz (a/n/ac/ax) section. - Select the preferred wireless mode from the Mode drop-down list.
For example, to limit a wireless band to 54 Mbps, select Up to 54 Mbps from the drop-down menu. - Click or tap Apply.
Your settings are saved.
