Remote Management is a feature that lets you connect to your router or gateway over the Internet when you are not at home. Most people do not need to use this feature, and it is turned off by default. We recommend that you leave the Remote Management feature turned off whenever you are not using it.

Remote Management in the router web interface is different from Anywhere Access in the Nighthawk and Orbi apps, which was called Remote Management in older versions. For more information, see Remote Management is now Anywhere Access in the Nighthawk and Orbi apps.

To enable or disable Remote Management on your NETGEAR router:

  1. Launch a web browser from a device that is connected to your router's network.
  2. Enter www.routerlogin.net.
    A login window displays.
  3. Enter your user name and password.
The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time that you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
  4. The BASIC Home page or Dashboard displays.
  5. Navigate to the Remote Management setting.
The location might differ depending on your router model and firmware version:
    • ADVANCED > Remote Management
    • ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Web Services Management
    • Settings > Advanced Setup > Remote Management
  6. Select the Turn Remote Management Oncheck box to enable Remote Management or clear the check box to disable Remote Management.
If you enabled Remote Management, complete the following additional steps:
    1. In the Allow Remote Access By section, specify the external IP addresses that might manage the router remotely.
      Select one of the following:
      • Only This Computer: Allow access from a single IP address on the Internet. Enter the IP address.
      • IP Address Range: Allow access from a range of IP addresses on the Internet. Enter a beginning IP address and an ending IP address to define the allowed page.
      • Everyone: Allow access from any IP address on the Internet.
    2. Specify the port number for accessing the web management interface.
Normal web browser access uses the standard HTTP service port 80. For greater security, enter a custom port number for the remote web management interface. Choose a number from 1024 to 65535, but do not use the number of any common service port. The default is 8443, which is a common alternate for HTTP.
  7. Click or tap Apply.
    Your settings are saved.
