The Nighthawk and Orbi apps let you securely connect to your NETGEAR router from anywhere to monitor your router’s network. The feature that lets you connect from anywhere used to be called Remote Management, but is now called “Anywhere Access”.
Why is the name changing?
Many NETGEAR routers and gateways offer a similar feature which is also called Remote Management. However, the Remote Management feature in the router or gateway web user interface functions differently from the feature in the Nighthawk and Orbi apps.
The Remote Management feature on your router or gateway web user interface opens an external port. The Anywhere Access feature in the Nighthawk and Orbi apps uses a secure, authenticated connection through the NETGEAR Cloud and does not open any ports.
To avoid confusion between these similar features that function differently, NETGEAR is renaming the app feature from Remote Management to Anywhere Access.
Did anything else change?
No, the Anywhere Access feature in the Nighthawk and Orbi apps works exactly the same as it used to. The only thing that changed is the name.
