How to configure a VLAN on a NETGEAR Smart Switch with a Smart UI

This article describes how to configure a VLAN on a NETGEAR Smart Switch with a Smart user interface (UI), as opposed to a traditional UI.

Step 1. Log in to the Smart Switch:

Connect your computer to the same network as the switch.
You can use a WiFi or wired connection to connect your computer to the network, or
connect directly to a switch that is off-network using an Ethernet cable.
Launch a web browser.
In the address field of your web browser, enter the IP address of the switch.
If you do not know the IP address, see How do I discover a NETGEAR Smart Switch.
The Device Admin Password page displays.
Enter one of the following passwords:

Enter your device admin password.
If you previously managed the switch through the Insight app or Cloud portal,
enter the Insight network password for the last Insight network location.

Step 2. Create a VLAN:

Select Switching > VLAN > VLAN Management.
The VLAN Management page displays.
Click the Add New button.
The Add VLAN Configuration pop-up window displays
In the VLAN ID field, type the ID of the VLAN that you want to create.
Click the Save button.
Your settings are saved.

Step 3. Add ports to the VLAN:

Select Switching > VLAN > VLAN Configuration (Basic).
The VLAN Configuration (Basic) page displays.
From the VLAN ID menu, select the VLAN ID that you added in Step 2.
Select the ports that must be added to the VLAN by clicking each port until it displays blue.
You can mark the ports as untagged or tagged by clicking the following buttons as
needed under the Ports table:

Untag Port: The selected ports are added as untagged members of the VLAN.
These ports display a “U.” Such ports are also known as access ports.
Tag Port: The selected ports are added as tagged members of the VLAN.
These ports display a “T.” Such ports are also known as trunk ports.

Step 4. For each port added as untagged in the previous step, remove the port from VLAN 1:

Remain on the same page.
From the VLAN ID menu, select 1.
Select the ports that you added to the new VLAN as untagged in Step 3 by clicking each port
until it displays blue.
Remove the ports from VLAN 1 by clicking the Clear button.
Click the Apply button.
Your settings are saved.

Step 5. Configure the port PVID settings for untagged ports:

Remain on the same page.
From the VLAN ID menu, select VLAN ID that you added in Step 2.
Select the ports that you added to the new VLAN as untagged in Step 3 by clicking each port
until it displays blue.
Click the PVID button so that a "P" displays for each selected port.
The VLAN is assigned as the PVID for the selected ports.
Click the Apply button.
Your settings are saved.
