The 6 GHz wireless band was introduced with the WiFi 6E standard and is exclusive to devices that support WiFi 6E and newer standards, including WiFi 7 and successive future WiFi versions.

Because the 6 GHz wireless band was previously unlicensed, regulators in some regions are still considering its use. 6 GHz WiFi functionality is not available in regions where regulators have not approved the 6 GHz band, even if your device includes capable hardware. If the 6 GHz band is approved in your region, your device's manufacturer must enable the functionality before you can access the 6 GHz band. An increasing number of Android mobile devices support 6 GHz WiFi with WiFi 6E, and WiFi 7 support is rolling out to some devices as well. For example, Google introduced support for WiFi 6E on Pixel 6 series phones. Samsung began supporting WiFi 6E with the S21 Ultra 5G and Z Fold3. Motorola started WiFi 6E support with the Edge (2021), and the Edge 40 Pro supports WiFi 7.

However, many Android devices still do not support 6 GHz WiFi. We recommend that you check the specifications of your specific Android device to see if it supports 6 GHz WiFi. For a list of WiFi 6E and WiFi 7 certified products, see the Wi-Fi Alliance Product Finder.
