On all Nighthawk Pro Gaming routers, the Quality of Service (QoS) feature lets you allocate your bandwidth to specific devices on your network. For example, a device that you use for gaming or media streaming requires more bandwidth than a device that is mostly used for browsing and emails. You can allocate a percentage of the total router bandwidth to that device to guarantee a certain amount of bandwidth for your device when it needs it.
You can also use the Traffic Prioritization feature to prioritize traffic for specific services or a specific device. By default, your router automatically prioritizes bandwidth-heavy traffic for activities like online gaming, but you can also manually prioritize traffic for a device or service. If network congestion occurs, the prioritized traffic is sent to the front of the queue, reducing network lag for the device or service. Traffic Prioritization affects both outgoing and incoming traffic.
Nighthawk Pro Gaming routers with DumaOS 3.0 add the ability to configure QoS for specific applications in addition to specific devices. DumaOS 3.0 also adds the Congestion Control feature, which prevents network congestion and queueing delays caused by applications or devices that consume a lot of bandwidth.
