The easiest way to set up and start using your WAC124 is to connect it to your router and log in through the local browser-based management interface. By default, it is set to access point mode, but you can change it to function as a router after initial set up.

To log in to your WAC124 for the first time:

  1. Connect an Ethernet cable from an existing router with an Internet connection to the yellow WAN port on your WAC124.

    Do not directly connect your WAC124 to an Internet modem when you log in for the first time.

  2. Plug in your WAC124's power supply.
  3. Wait for the Power LED and Internet LED on your WAC124 to turn on and stay a solid green.
  4. Connect your computer to one of the WAC124's LAN ports or WiFi network.The default WiFi SSID is NETGEAR-1. The default password is sharedsecret.
  5. Enter http://www.routerlogin.net in a web browser.The sign-in page displays.

    If the sign-in page does not display, if you cannot log in to your MyNETGEAR account, or if any other problems keep you from completing the initial log-in process, you might need to factory-reset your device and update the firmware. For more information, see How do I update my WAC124 firmware if I can't log in?.

  6. If you see A new firmware upgrade is available. Click here to get it., click the link and follow the directions on the page. Then wait for the device to install the firmware and restart.
  7. Create or sign in to a MyNETGEAR account.The WAC124 dashboard displays. Here you can monitor the status of your network devices and internet connection.
  8. On the left, select Advanced.
  9. Write down the LAN IP address of the WAC124 for later use.
