Ransomware is a type of malicious software designed to restrict your access to your data until you pay a sum of money. Ransomware attacks your files making them inaccessible.
ReadyNAS has several options to help overcome ransomware-affected systems.
- Snapshots
- Snapshots of your files help prevent against ransomware because snapshots are read-only, and ransomware cannot make changes to that data. If your live data has been affected, you can revert a snapshot of a share that has been affected back to the time where the files were unaffected.
- For more information about snapshots, see snapshots.
- ReadyDR
- As ReadyDR is snapshot based, you can keep a copy of your snapshots on another device and revert back to those snapshots if you become exposed to ransomware.
- For more information about ReadyDR, see the Backup FAQ
- Backups
- Keeping a backup of your data on a remote system can help restore you in the event of becoming vulnerable to ransomware.
- For more information about file-based backups, see the Backup FAQ.
