Port triggering is a dynamic extension of port forwarding. Unlike port forwarding, which is always active after it is configured, port triggering works by creating a port forwarding rule (inbound firewall rule) that is only activated when it is triggered by detecting specified outbound packets. After the rule is triggered, specified inbound packets (from the Internet) are forwarded to the computer that triggered it. For more information, see What is port triggering?
Port triggering must be enabled on your router before you can set up a custom port triggering service. For more information, visit How do I enable port triggering on my NETGEAR router?.
To add a custom port triggering service on your NETGEAR router:
- Launch a web browser from a device that is connected to your router's network.
- Enter www.routerlogin.net.
A login window displays. - Enter your user name and password.
The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time that you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
The BASIC Home page or Dashboard displays. - Select ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Port Forwarding/ Port Triggering.
The Port Forwarding/ Port Triggering page displays. - Select the Port Triggering radio button.
The page adjusts. - Click the Add Service button.
- In the Service Name field, type a descriptive name.
- From the Service User menu, select a user option:
- Any (the default) allows any computer on the Internet to use this service.
- Single address restricts the service to a particular computer.
- From the Service Type menu, select TCP or UDP or TCP/UDP (both).
If you’re not sure, select TCP/UDP. - In the Triggering Port field, enter the number of the outbound traffic port that opens the inbound ports.
- In the Connection Type, Starting Port, and Ending Port fields, enter the inbound connection information.
- Click the Apply button.
The service is now in the Portmap Table.
