The WAC740 can support multi-gigabit throughput in two different ways:
- Connect the 2.5 Gbps multi-gigabit Ethernet port (LAN 1) on the WAC740 with a single Ethernet cable to a multi-gigabit Ethernet switch such as the NETGEAR M4200.
- Create a static manual LAG with 2 Gbps throughput by connecting both LAN ports on the WAC740 to 1 Gbps Ethernet ports on a switch. For more information about creating a LAG on the WAC740, see How do I set up link aggregation or port trunking on my WAC740 Wireless Access Point?
The WAC740's multi-gigabit Ethernet is based on the NBASE-T Alliance, approved by IEEE in September, 2016, as IEEE 802.3bz. This technology is also available on the NETGEAR M4200.
The NBASE-T standard adds support for 2.5-Gbps and 5-Gbps speeds to Fast Ethernet, 1 Gbps, and 10 Gbps connections over standard copper cabling, enabling speed upgrades without expensive cable runs.
