Your Orbi WiFi System includes an Orbi router and one or more Orbi satellites. The following instructions describe how to install your Orbi System with the Orbi app or with a web browser. Click or tap an expandable section below for more information.

  1. If you don't already have the Orbi app installed on your mobile device, download the Orbi app from orbi-app.com.
  2. Launch the Orbi app.
  3. Log in to your MyNETGEAR account and tap Set up an Orbi.
    If you do not have a MyNETGEAR account, you must create one. For more information, see How do I create a MyNETGEAR account?
  4. Tap Enable Camera and Scan.
    If the Orbi app prompts you for permission to use your device's camera, tap While using this app.
  5. Scan the QR code located on your Orbi router's sleeve or base and then tap Continue.
  6. Unplug your modem and router, if you have one, then tap I unplugged everything.
  7. Connect the Orbi router to your modem with the supplied yellow Ethernet cable. Use the yellow Ethernet port on the back of the Orbi router.
  8. Tap Ethernet is connected.
  9. Plug your Orbi router and modem into a power outlet. Do not plug in your Orbi satellites yet.
  10. Wait until your modem finishes starting up and the LEDs stabilize, then tap Modem LED is steady.
    NOTE: This might take a few minutes.
  11. Wait until your Orbi router's LED turns solid white and then tap LED is solid white.
    NOTE: This might take up to 5 minutes.
  12. Tap Continue.
    If you are prompted to save your Orbi router's default WiFi network name (SSID), tap Save.

  13. Tap Copy Password.
    This allows your device to fill in your Orbi router's default WiFi password for you.
  14. Take note of your Orbi router's default WiFi network name (SSID) and tap Choose Network.

  15. Select your Orbi router's default WiFi network name (SSID) that you were given on the previous page.
  16. Tap the back icon to return to the Orbi app and then tap WiFi is Connected.
    Your mobile device connects to your Orbi WiFi network.
    The Let's personalize your network settings page displays.
  17. Tap Next.
    The Create WiFi Network page displays.
  18. Create a personalized WiFi network name (SSID) and password, then tap NEXT.
    Take note of these credentials, they are used to connect devices to your Orbi WiFi network.
    The Set Up Administrator Login page displays.
  19. Create an administrator password for your Orbi router then tap NEXT.
    The default administrator login is admin. We recommend choosing a password that is different from your Orbi WiFi network password. These credentials are used to access your Orbi router settings using a web browser.
    The Set Up Security Questions page displays.
  20. Select and answer two security questions from the menus and tap NEXT.
    The answers to these questions are used to recover your Orbi router administrator password in case you ever forget it.
    A progress bar displays while your personalized Orbi WiFi network is set up.
  21. Tap Continue.
    If you are prompted to save your Orbi router's personalized network name (SSID), tap Save.
    The Up and running! page displays.
  22. Tap Next.
    The Plug in your satellites page displays.
    The Orbi app home page displays.
  23. Place each of your Orbi satellites 3 to 4 rooms away from your Orbi router or other Orbi satellites and plug them into power outlets.

  24. When your satellites are placed, tap THEY'RE PLUGGED IN.

  25. Tap OKAY, GOT IT.

Your Orbi WiFi System is now set up.

  1. Unplug your modem and existing router if you have one.
  2. Connect the Orbi router to your modem with the supplied yellow Ethernet cable. Use the yellow Ethernet port on the back of the Orbi router.
  3. Plug both your Orbi router and modem into a power outlet. Do not plug in your Orbi satellites yet.
  4. Wait until your modem finishes starting up, its LEDs stabilize, and your Orbi router's LED turns solid white.
    NOTE: This might take up to 5 minutes.
  5. Connect a computer to the Orbi router's default WiFi network.
    The Orbi router's default WiFi network name (SSID) and password are found on the QR code sticker on the router, as well as on the product label on the bottom of the router.
  6. Launch a web browser on the computer connected to the Orbi router's default WiFi network.
  7. Enter the URL to access your Orbi router:
    • For newer Orbi routers, enter orbilogin.local into the address bar.
      If orbilogin.local does not work, try entering the default IP address: 10.168.168.1
    • For older Orbi routers, enter orbilogin.com into the address bar.
      If orbilogin.net does not work, try entering the default IP address: 192.168.1.1

  8. Click If you don't have a compatible smartphone, click here at the bottom of the page.
    The Welcome to Orbi page displays.
  9. Click Next.
    The Terms of Service page displays.
  10. Read the Terms of Service. If you agree, click the check box and Next.
    Your Orbi router detects your Internet connection.
  11. Click Next.
    The Setup Orbi Satellites page displays.
  12. Place each of your Orbi satellites 3 to 4 rooms away from your Orbi router or other Orbi satellites and plug them into power outlets.

  13. When your satellites are placed and plugged in, click Next.
    Your Orbi router checks the satellite connection.
    This might take up to 3 minutes.
  14. When the Orbi router has detected your satellites, click Next.
    The Admin Account Settings page displays.
  15. Create an admin password for your Orbi router.
    The default administrator login is admin. These credentials are used to access your Orbi router settings using a web browser.
  16. Select and answer two security questions from the menus and click Next.
    The answers to these questions are used to recover your Orbi router admin password in case you ever forget it.
    The Set Up Your WiFi page displays.
  17. Create a personalized WiFi network name (SSID) and password, then click Next.
    We recommend choosing a password that is different from your admin password. Take note of these credentials, they are used to connect devices to your Orbi WiFi network.

  18. Connect to the new WiFi network name (SSID) with the password you just created.
  19. When you are connected to the new Orbi WiFi network, click I AM CONNECTED TO IT.
    The Configuration Complete page displays.
  20. (Optional) Click PRINT WIFI CREDENTIAL to print your new WiFi credentials.
  21. Click Next.
    The Firmware Update page displays and checks for new firmware for your Orbi WiFi System.
  22. Update your Orbi router’s firmware.
    • If new firmware is found, click Update All.
    • If no new firmware is found, click SKIP >>> at the top right.

Your Orbi WiFi System is now set up.
