The following steps outline the process of migrating access point(s) to a WC9500 from any of these model controllers: EC7500, WC7520 or WC7600.
In this example we use the following devices to display the migration:
Existing controller: WC7600 - IP address 192.168.0.250
New controller: WC9500 - IP address 192.168.0.150
Access point (AP) : WNAP320 - IP address 192.168.0.51
The access point is contolled by WC7600. This is visible at Access Point - Discovery - Managed AP List.
On the AP web gui we can see the Controller IP address is that of the WC7600. This is seen in Configuration - System - IP/VLAN. Controller Settings.
When logging in directly to the AP web gui the password will be the same as the password to the controller that is actively controlling the AP
1. Remove the AP(s) from the existing controller
Go to Access Point - Discovery - Managed AP List. Select the AP(s) you wish to remove from the existing controller. Click Remove (on the bottom right).
A pop up displays to confirm the removal of the AP. Click OK to confirm.
2. Add the AP to the new controller.
Login to the WC9500 web gui and go to Access Point - Discovery - Discovery Wizard. Select Out of Factory and L2 Subnet APs - click Next.
3. Select the AP from the list and click ADD.
The AP is now available in Access Point - Discovery - Managed AP List on the new controller (WC9500).
For illustration purposes, logging into the web gui of the AP we see it is now conrolled by the new controller with IP address 192.168.0.150. You need to use the password for the new controller to access the AP web gui.
Additional Step
When migrating an AP from controller WC7520 you may be required to take an additional step. When adding the AP to the WC9500 (that has been removed from WC7520), if the process is stuck and not completing login to the AP web gui and go to Configuration - System - Controller Settings. Enter the IP address of the WC9500 controller and click Apply.
Check back to the controller web gui and the AP add process should now proceed to go through a firmware upgrade, authentication and finally be connected to the WC9500.
