MediaCom recently updated its system and pushed a new configuration to its customers. Due to this upgrade, MediaCom created an overlapping configuration issue that causes all Broadcom chip-based cable gateways, including some cable gateways from NETGEAR, to be placed modem mode or bridge mode.
MediaCom is working on a fix but it might take some time to resolve the problem. In the meantime, MediaCom will remove the configuration for customers who are affected by this issue.
You are likely experiencing this issue if you are a MediaCom customer and are experiencing any of the following symptoms:
- Cannot access the Internet on more than one wired device
- Cannot connect wirelessly after your NETEGAR cable gateway is connected to MediaCom service
- Cable gateway shows only Cable Connection page on the BASIC tab.
- Cable gateway shows only Administration options on the ADVANCED tab.
- Wireless functionality on the cable gateway is disabled.
- Router mode setting is set to NO or dimmed.
- Cannot access advanced router settings such as WPS Wizard, Setup, USB Storage, Security, and Advanced Home.
To restore full functionality of your cable gateway:
- Contact MediaCom at 1-844-274-6753 and let them know that you are calling about NETGEAR bridge mode issue and that you would like to have bridge mode configuration removed from your account.
MediaCom will ask you to provide the MAC address of your cable gateway and will remove the bridge mode configuration from your device. - Look on your cable gateway's product label (usually on the bottom of the device) for the MAC address and provide it to the MediaCom representative.
MediaCom will remove the bridge mode configuration. - After MediaCom confirms that the bridge mode configuration was removed, perform a factory reset on your cable gateway.
For more information about how to perform a factory reset, visit Restoring a NETGEAR home router to the factory default settings - After the factory reset process is complete, you regain the full functionality of the cable gateway.
