By default, your NETGEAR router broadcasts its wireless network name (SSID) so that your WiFi devices can easily discover and connect to your network. However, you might want to hide your SSID so that devices cannot attempt to connect to your network unless they manually enter your SSID.
You can disable SSID broadcast from your router’s web interface.
To hide your NETGEAR router’s wireless network name (SSID):
- Launch a web browser from a device that is connected to your router's network.
- Enter www.routerlogin.net.
A login window displays. - Enter your user name and password.
The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time that you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive. - The BASIC Home page or Dashboard displays.
- Select Wireless.
For Nighthawk Pro Gaming routers, select Settings > Wireless Setup. - Clear the Enable SSID Broadcast check box and click or tap Apply.
Your router’s SSID is now hidden.
