The 20/40 MHz coexistence feature on NETGEAR routers helps prevent interference between wireless networks. When 20/40 MHz coexistence is enabled, your router’s 2.4 GHz radio uses 40 MHz bandwidth until it detects another broadcast device using 40 MHz, at which point it falls back to 20 Mhz to avoid interference. 20/40 MHz coexistence is enabled by default.
Depending on your network environment, disabling 20/40 MHz coexistence might help your devices connect to your router at a faster WiFi speed. You can disable 20/40 MHz coexistence from the router web interface.
To disable 20/40 MHz coexistence on your NETGEAR router:
- Launch a web browser from a device that is connected to your router's network.
- Enter www.routerlogin.net.
A login window displays. - Enter your user name and password.
The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time that you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive. - The BASIC Home page or Dashboard displays.
- Select ADVANCED> Advanced Setup> Wireless Settings.
For Nighthawk Pro Gaming routers, select Settings > Wireless Setup. - Clear the Enable 20/40 MHz Coexistence check box.
- Click or tap Apply.
20/40 MHz coexistence is disabled.
