This guide will help you migrate Egnyte from RAIDiator 4.2 to ReadyNAS OS 6 with minimum downtime as most of the transactions can be done during production.

We will prepare the RAIDiator 4.2 system by enabling the Rsync protocol to assist in transferring the files from one device to another, then configuring the ELC share for transfer via Rsync. Next, we will create the ELC share on ReadyNAS OS 6, create the Private and Shared folder in the new ELC share, then configure backup jobs to pull the data to the new system.

Preparing RAIDiator 4.2

  1. Access Frontview

  2. Navigate to Services > Standard File Protocols

  3. Check box to enable the Rsync protocol, then click Apply.

  4. Go to Shares > Share Listing 
    Image
  5. Click to modify Rsync permission for the ELC share 
    Image
  6. Set Default Access to Read-only and click Apply 
    Image
  7. Optionally, set Host allowed access to the IP address of the ReadyNAS OS 6 storage system.

Preparing ReadyNAS OS 6

  1. Access the ReadyNAS Admin page

  2. Navigate to Shares

  3. Click New Share

  4. Create share name as ELC and click Create

Transferring Files

  1. Using the ReadyNAS Admin Page on the OS 6 system, navigate to Backup

  2. Click Add Backup

  3. Configure a Backup Job for Shared
    1. Name the job ELC Backup
    2. Host should be the IP or hostname of your RAIDiator 4.2 box
    3. Protocol should be Remote: Rsync Server
    4. Share should be ELC
    5. Login should be admin
    6. Password should be the admin password of the RAIDiator 4.2 box
    7. On Remote, click Browse , navigate to your volume and click the ELC share, then click Select

  4. Confirm your settings are similar to the example below, and hit Next

  5. Uncheck Enable Schedule to turn off the schedule, and then click Finish

  6. Click No when it asks if you want to add the job to the Backup Button queue.

  7. Click the gear on the "ELC Backup" job and click Settings

  8. Click the Advanced tab and select Remove deleted files on target

  9. Use the plus icon to add each of the exclusions below. Take note of the period before each word, then click Apply.

    • .events
    • .work

  10. Click the gear on the "ELC Backup" job and click Start.

Setup Users

  1. Navigate to Accounts.

  2. Click Authentication

  3. Switch Access Type from Local Users to Active Directory

  4. Configure for Active Directory

After the backup jobs are finished running, you'll have a copy of your old ELC share in your new ELC share. Before you're ready to migrate, shut down Egnyte on RAIDiator 4.2 and re-run these backup jobs to make sure all files are up to date.

Enabling Egnyte

  1. Navigate to Cloud

  2.  Under Egnyte Storage Sync for NETGEAR, set the toggle switch to On. Wait a few moments while the latest Egnyte Storage Sync version is prepared.

  3. Click Settings

  4. Configure the Egnyte Storage Sync app for your Egnyte domain.
  5. Ensure that you are syncing the same folders you were syncing on your previous ReadyNAS.
  6. Complete one Storage Sync synchronization.
  7. Test and ensure the ELC share is accessible.
