The VPN Service function allows you to access your home network securely through the Internet when you are away from home. In addition, when you are out of the country, you can use the VPN Service to access Internet sites or services that you may not usually be able to due to geographic limitations. To use the VPN service, you need to connect to your router through the Internet. There are two ways to locate your router:
- Using the Dynamic DNS service (suggested)
- An alternative option is through your router's public Internet address
Please make sure you either have the Dynamic DNS service enabled or the static IP address settings for your Internet connection. The VPN service only works with OpenVPN clients and will not work with any other VPN clients. If you need instructions for using a different device (other than your iOS device), see the following:

To use the VPN service on your router with your Android device:
- Use a computer that is connected to your router via wired or wireless connection.
- Open your Internet browser and go to http://www.routerlogin.com or http://www.routerlogin.net.
- Enter the default username which is admin and the default password is password.
- Click OK or LOG IN.
The BASIC page displays. - Click ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > VPN Service.
- Select Enable VPN Service and click Apply.
- Click For Smart Phone to download the OpenVPN configuration package.
Note: Make sure TUN/TAP port numbers are not the same when using both PC and smartphone for openVPN.
Default values:
TUN mode - 12973 (for smartphone)
TAP mode – 12974 (for computers) - Once downloaded, extract smartphone.zip and you should see these four files below:
Note: On other devices, smartphone.zip contains a single file only (smart_phone.ovpn). - Connect your Android phone to your computer using a USB cable.
- Open your Android phone’s storage and create a folder where you can save these 4 files from unzipped OpenVPN config folder.
- Copy and paste these 4 files into your Android phone folder.
Note: You may also send the unzipped OpenVPN configuration for the smartphone to your Android phone via email. Download and save the files to your Android phone storage. - Disconnect your Android phone from your computer and connect it to another network.
- Launch OpenVPN on your Android phone.
- Import “client3.ovpn” file.
Note: Import "smart_phone.ovpn" instead if it is the only file you extracted from smartphone.zip. - Tap Connect and wait for the connection to become connected.
You have successfully used VPN service on your router using an Android phone.
