ReadyDATA allows snapshots of shares or LUNs to be automatically taken at hard-coded hourly, daily, or weekly intervals.
- Hourly snapshots will be taken on the hour, every hour.
- Daily snapshots will be taken daily at midnight.
- Weekly snapshots will be taken on Friday at midnight.
In order to automatically maintain a sufficient amount of free capacity, the ReadyDATA has an option in the management interface to enable Smart Snapshot Management to prune older snapshots.
Snapshots are pruned based on the following retention times:
- Hourly snapshots will be kept for a period of 48 hours.
- Daily snapshots will be kept for a period of 4 weeks.
- Weekly snapshots will be kept for a period of 8 weeks.
- Monthly snapshots are retained forever (the last weekly snapshot in a month is promoted to a monthly snapshot).
Note: If volume usage exceeds 75% of total capacity (or if available storage space reaches 200GB or less), then the oldest snapshots will be automatically pruned to bring the volume usage below this threshold. This 75% threshold was introduced in ReadyDATA OS version 1.4.0 (was previously 70% on ReadyDATA OS version 1.3.1).
Note: Smart Snapshot Management applies only to automatic snapshots. Snapshots taken manually will not be pruned.
