A guest WiFi network allows visitors at your home to use the Internet without using your primary wireless network’s password. You can add a guest WiFi network for the 2.4 GHz WiFi band and 5 GHz WiFi band.
When you set up guest WiFi, your router provides network separation between your guest network and your primary wireless network. Devices on the guest network cannot access devices on the primary network, and vice versa.
This article describes how to set up a guest network from your router's web interface. For information about setting up a guest network from the Nighthawk app, see How do I set up guest WiFi using the Nighthawk app?
To set up guest WiFi on your NETGEAR Nighthawk router from the router web interface:
- Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to your router’s network.
- Enter http://www.routerlogin.net.
A login window displays. - Enter the router user name and password.
The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time that you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
The BASIC Home page or Dashboard displays. - Select Guest Network.
For Nighthawk Pro Gaming models, select Settings > Guest Network. - Scroll to the 2.5 GHz or 5 GHz section of the screen to set up guest WiFi network for either band.
These are the default guest wireless network names (SSIDs):- NETGEAR-Guest is for the 2.4 GHz WiFi band.
- NETGEAR-5G-Guest is for the 5 GHz WiFi band.
- Ensure that the Enable SSID Broadcast check box selected.
Allowing the router to broadcast its WiFi network name (SSID) makes it easier to find your network and connect to it. If you clear this check box, you create a hidden network. - Enter a guest network name.
The guest network name is case-sensitive and can be up to 32 characters. You can manually configure the WiFi-enabled devices in your network to use the guest network name in addition to the main SSID. - Select a security option.
WPA2 is the default setting. - Click the Apply button.
Your settings are saved.
