Quality of service (QoS) enables you to prioritize important traffic for activities like gaming and video streaming. The traffic of your gaming and streaming applications is sent first, improving performance.
Upstream QoS prioritizes network traffic between the Internet and your local devices such as your Xbox. This feature can help to minimize lag during online gaming. NETGEAR recommends that only gamers enable the Upstream QoS feature. If you don’t game and you enable this feature, some applications might lose performance.
To enable upstream QoS on your NETGEAR router:
- Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to your router’s network.
- Enter http://routerlogin.net.
A login window displays. - Enter the router user name and password.
The user name is admin. The default password is password. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
The BASIC Home page displays. - Select ADVANCED > Setup > QoS Setup.
The WMM page displays. - Select the Upstream QoS tab.
The Upstream QoS page displays. - Select the Enable Upstream QoS (Optimized for Gaming) check box.
- Specify the maximum uplink bandwidth for your Internet connection:
- If you know what your uplink bandwidth is, enter it in the Uplink bandwidth Maximum field.
- If you are not sure, click the Speedtest button.
Note: Speedtest verifies the upstream speed of your Internet connection. The Uplink bandwidth Maximum field displays the result of the test.
- Click the Apply button.
The router assigns a high priority tag to Internet traffic between your gaming devices and the Internet.
