- How can I to reset and restore the access point to factory default settings?
- Press the reset button on the back until the Power light blinks. This takes about 5~10 seconds. (To avoid accidental resets, the small button is recessed. Use a pen or paperclip to access it.)
- Release the button.
- Wait for the access point to reboot.
- Log in with the default password. The default username is ("admin") and password ("password").
- Why do I need to always have the latest firmware on my NETGEAR product?
Having the latest firmware will help increase the stability, functionality and performance of your product. The new and most up-to-date firmware will likely correct issues as well as potentially add new and improved features to the product.
- What can I do if I forgot or misplaced the password for this access point?
Unfortunately, there is no way to recover a misplaced or forgotten password from an access point; you will need to reset the device to factory defaults. However, once the device is reset to factory defaults, you can use the default username ("admin") and password ("password") to reconfigure your access point settings.
Note: Restoring factory defaults on a device will erase any customizations you have made. You will lose any configurations saved to the device!
- What can I do if I forgot or misplaced the Password for the wireless network of this access point?
If you can log into the access point, you can go to Setup > Wireless Settings page to view the current password of the wireless network.
Note: If you cannot log into your access point because you have forgotten the access point password, please refer to FAQ-2.
- What is WPS (Wi-Fi Protected Setup)?
Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a standard for easy and secure establishment of a wireless network. Traditionally, users would have to manually create a wireless network name (SSID), and then manually entering a creative, yet predictable security key on both the access point and client to prevent unwanted access to their wireless network. With WPS, it will automatically configure a wireless network with a network name (SSID) and strong WPA data encryption and authentication.
WPS can be enabled using 2 options:- PIN (Personal Identification Number) Method, in which a PIN has to be taken either from a sticker label or from the web interface of the WPS device. This PIN will then be entered in the AP or client WPS device to connect.
- PBC (Push button configuration) Method, in which the user simply has to push a button, either an actual or a virtual one, on both WPS devices to connect.
- How do I get the latest firmware?
Whenever there's newer firmware available, users can see the hint when logging into the portal. Users can click on the button to download the latest firmware.
- Does WN804 support WDS?
Yes, WN804 support WDS with security mode WEP, WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK. However, WDS has interoperability issues between different chipset solutions. Recommend to adopt WDS across NETGEAR routers/access points to prohibit such connectivity problems.
