You can expand an existing volume in two ways:

Horizontal expansion. Expand the volume by adding more disks to the volume. For more information, see the How do I horizontally expand an existing volume on my ReadyDATA storage system?

Vertical expansion. Expand the volume by replacing all disks in the volume with higher-capacity disks. For more information, see the How do I vertically expand an existing volume on my ReadyDATA storage system?
Expansion is immediate, independent of the amount of stored data on the volume, and does not affect users. You cannot change the RAID level during the expansion. The only exception is a horizontal expansion of a volume with RAID 1, which becomes RAID 10.
