SIM Security is a feature that prevents unauthorized use of your SIM. When the feature is enabled, your SIM is protected by a PIN that you must enter before the SIM can be used in the modem or in any other device (such as a mobile phone).
You cannot use the SIM Security feature without knowing PIN1, which is initially assigned by your service provider (default is 1234).
When SIM Security is enabled, you are prompted for your PIN anytime you insert the modem or it is reset. (It is reset when certain settings, such as transmit power consumption, are changed.)
Note: If you enable SIM Security and forget the PIN, you will not be able to use the modem until you receive assistance from your service provider.
To enable SIM Security:
- Open the User Options window and select SIM Settings.?
- In the Enabled field, use the drop-down list to select Yes.
- Enter PIN1 in the Please enter PIN field and click Apply.
Note: You must enter the correct PIN within a certain number of attempts. If you enter the wrong PIN, Watcher displays the message "Wrong PIN" and the remaining attempts are reduced by one. If you fail to enter the correct PIN within the designated number of attempts, your SIM becomes blocked.
- Click Yes to confirm that you want to enable SIM Security.
When you enable SIM Security in Watcher, the main Watcher window displays the prompt "Please enter PIN: Remaining attempts = x".
To disable SIM Security:
- Open the User Options window and select SIM Settings.
- In the Enable SIM Security field, use the drop-down list to select No.
- Enter your PIN in the Please enter PIN field and click Apply.
