What is VAAI?
vStorage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI) is a feature introduced in ESXi/ESX 4.1 that provides hardware acceleration functionality. It enables your host to offload specific virtual machine and storage management operations to compliant storage hardware.
You can find more details at VMWare's site.
Does ReadyNAS support VAAI?
ReadyNAS supports VAAI as of OS 6.7.0
If you're using a version before OS 6.7.0, it is strongly recommended that VAAI be disabled in all VMWare hosts that connect to iSCSI LUNs on your ReadyNAS.
How do I disable VAAI in vSphere?
To disable VAAI in ESXi/ESX, you must modify these advanced configuration settings:
- HardwareAcceleratedMove
- HardwareAcceleratedInit
- HardwareAcceleratedLocking
For instructions on how to disable these please refer to this VMWare article.
Once VAAI has been disabled, it may be necessary to restart your ReadyNAS.
