vStorage APIs for Array Integration (VAAI) is a feature introduced in ESXi/ESX 4.1 that provides hardware acceleration functionality. VAAI enables your host to offload specific virtual machine and storage management operations to compliant storage hardware.

You can find more details at VMware's site.

Does ReadyDATA support VAAI?

At this time, VAAI is not supported.

It is strongly recommended that VAAI be disabled in all VMware hosts that initiate iSCSI targets on ReadyDATA.

How do I disable VAAI in vSphere?

To disable VAAI in ESXi/ESX, you must modify these advanced configuration settings:

  • HardwareAcceleratedMove
  • HardwareAcceleratedInit
  • HardwareAcceleratedLocking

For instructions on how to disable these advanced configuration settings, please refer to the following VMware article.

Once VAAI has been disabled, it may be necessary to restart the ReadyDATA system.
