Accessing the Boot Menu on M4100

In order to access the boot menu of the M4100, you will need to first open a serial connection to the device.

The default settings for this switch are:

  • Speed (baud): 115200
  • Data Bits: 8
  • Stop Bits: 1
  • Parity: None
  • Flow Control: XON/XOFF

To stop the boot sequence and enter the boot menu, open the serial connection and wait until you see "Starting program at 0xXXXXXXXX" and then press and hold "q" until the boot menu is displayed:

Activate a backup image

From the boot menu, select option 12

  • /dev/mtd1 = image1
  • /dev/mtd2 = image2
  • Note: Sometimes, these numbers may shift by 1, therefore, mtd2 is image1 and mtd3 is image2.

Confirm Y or N to reboot

Loading new operational code using USB

You'll need to load the STK firmware file to a FAT32-formatted USB stick/drive. Remember the name. Rename for simplicity.

Insert the USB into the M4100 USB port provided on the front.

In the boot menu. select option 5.

When prompted, enter the file name of the firmware you placed on the USB.

When prompted, press 1 or 2 for which image you'd like to save the new firmware to.

Once this is done, press 1 to confirm the reboot of the switch.

Factory Default the Switch

From the boot menu, select option 11.

Note: This will erase your entire configuration.
