ProSAFE Plus switches are configured using the UM+ utility installed on a MS Windows based computer.
When the UM+ utility starts, it will detect and display the ProSAFE Plus switches in the network.
If the UM+ utility cannot detect the ProSAFE Plus switch,
- Make sure there is network connectivity from the computer to the ProSAFE Plus switch.
- Some firewall software installed on the computer may prevent the UM+ utility to detect the ProSAFE Plus switch. Try disabling the firewall software.
- Some software such as VPN client software may prevent the UM+ utility to detect the ProSAFE Plus switch. Try to disable or uninstall the software.
- If the ProSAFE Plus switch is either FS116E or JFS524E and the UM+ utility was able to detect the switch right after the UM+ utility was installed but cannot detect the switch anymore after the computer reboot, the WinPcap (NPF) driver being used in the UM+ utility may not get started correctly.
To workaround the issue, user may manually configure the NPF driver to start automatically at system start using one of the following three procedures:
- From the Device Manager you can select View->Show hidden devices, then open Non-Plug and Play Drivers and right click NetGroup Packet Filter Driver. In the driver properties you can set the startup type as well as start and stop the driver manually.
- From the command line you can run:
sc config npf start=auto
(This must be run as Adminstrator under Vista) - In the registry, you can change:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NPF\Start from 0x3 (SERVICE_DEMAND_START) to 0x2 (SERVICE_AUTO_START) or 0x1 (SERVICE_SYSTEM_START).
