What is WFS709TP smart wireless controller?
The WFS709TP Smart wireless Controller is a part of the wireless solution which consists of light access points for the wireless connectivity and a Smart Wireless Controller with intelligence to centrally control and configure the access points. Some part of the standalone access point functionality such as Authentication and Data forwarding are done by the switch.
What models of the access points are supported by the WFS709TP?
WFS709TP in this release supports 2 new models of access points.
- WGL102 ProSAFE Light Wireless Access Point 802.11g
- WAGL102 ProSAFE Dual Band Light Wireless Access Point 802.11a/g
Are there are existing models of the NETGEAR access points that can be used with WFS709TP?
Yes, 2 of the existing models of NETGEAR Access points can be converted to work with WFS709TP.They are:
- WG102 ProSAFE Wireless Access Point 802.11g
- WAG102 ProSAFE Dual Band Wireless Access Point 802.11a/g
The Firmware of these access points need to be upgraded to work with WFS709TP.
What is the default IP address of WFS709TP?
The default IP address of the switch is 192.168.0.250.
How can the WFS709TP and the supported APs be configured?
The WFS709TP controls and configures the Access Points. The Access Points cannot be configured directly as they do not have a WEB or CLI Interface. The WFS709TP Smart Wireless Controller can be configured thru its WEBUI. There is no support for CLI.
Is WFS709TP Vista compatible?
Vista Wireless clients can connect to the Access Points governed by WFS709TP. But the switch cannot be configured by IE7 in Vista. This support will be added in the next maintenance release. (Note: IE7 on XP works with the Switch)
What do I need to set up a wireless 802.11a/g network with WFS709TP?
WFS709TP powers 4 different models of NETGEAR Wireless Access Points. In order to setup a 802.11a/g network, you will need one WFS709TP and supported Access Points depending on the area you wish to cover.
How do I reset WFS709TP to factory defaults?
Connect serial connect to PC Bring up the console / hyper-terminal or other terminal emulation software using default serial parameters (9600 , 8, none,1,none).
- Reboot the box and hit enter when you see “Hit any key to stop autoboot” on the console.
- On the cpboot prompt enter:
cpboot > setenv cfgfile foo
cpboot > saveenv
boot - The system will reset to factory default and when it boots up it will go to the initial setup.
What is Power over Ethernet (PoE) and how do I use it?
Power over Ethernet is an IEEE 802.3af specification that enables the ability to use Ethernet cables to supply power to different nodes on the network, such as Access Points. WFS709TP has 8 PoE ports. These ports can be used to power the supported NETGEAR Wireless Access Points. However it is not necessary that the Access points be connected to the switch directly. The WFS709TP PoE ports can also be used to power any device which complies with IEEE802.3af specification.
