Known Issues:
- If the AP is configured in standalone mode with a valid static IP address, gateway address, and DNS addresses and you reboot the AP, the LED is turned off
Workaround: In the local browser UI, on the Management > Configuration > System > Advanced > LED Control page, select the Disable the LED radio button (which is displayed as “Disable all LEDs”) and then select the Enable the LED radio button (which is displayed as “Enabled all LEDs) options.
Firmware Update Instructions:
To update your product’s firmware, follow the instructions in your product’s user manual. To find your user manual, visit https://www.netgear.com/support/, enter your model number in the search box, and click the Documentation button on the product page.
Operational Notes:
- By default, the AP’s DHCP client is enabled. The AP can receive an IP address from a DHCP server in the network. If the AP does not detect a DHCP server, the AP uses its default IP address, which is 192.168.0.100.
- By default, the AP’s internal DHCP server is enabled. If the AP does not detect a DHCP server in the network, the AP’s internal DHCP server can assign up to five IP addresses in the 192.168.0.x subnet to WiFi clients.
- The default SSID is NetgearXXXXXX-SETUP, where XXXXXX are the last three octets of the AP’s MAC address, and the password to connect to the default SSID is sharedsecret.
- In “Day Zero” mode (that is, at initial configuration), you can use a WiFi client to access the local browser UI with the aplogin.net or aplogin.com URL. After initial configuration, use the IP address that is assigned to the AP.
- The default login credentials for access to the local browser UI are admin and password.
- You can return the AP to factory defaults by pressing and holding the Reset button for about five seconds. After you release the Reset button, the LED changes from green or blue to blinking amber.
- Under the following circumstances, the AP reboots automatically so that the configuration can take effect:
- Firmware upgrade
- Reset to factory defaults
- Restoration of the configuration
- Change of the country or region
Managing the Access Point:
You can configure and manage the AP as a managed device through NETGEAR Insight with the Insight Cloud Portal or Insight app, or as a standalone device through the local browser UI. The default management setting is NETGEAR Insight.
Insight Mode:
- NETGEAR Insight is the default management mode for the AP. Documentation about how to install the Insight app on a mobile phone or tablet and to manage the AP using the Insight app is provided in the installation guide on the beta portal.
- You can download the installation guide by visiting https://smbbeta.netgear.com/. After you are logged in to beta portal, select the “WAX605” project and go to the “RESOURCES” tab.
- When you add the AP to a NETGEAR Insight account for the first time, the AP’s firmware is automatically updated to the latest beta version.
- Log in to the Insight app if you already have an account. Otherwise, follow these instructions to set up a new NETGEAR Insight account:
- Tap Create NETGEAR Account and follow the onscreen instructions.
- Enter the email address and password for your account and tap LOG IN.
- Click the + sign in the upper right corner to create a new network location.
- Name your network and specify a device admin password that applies to all the devices that you add to this network.
- To add the AP to your account, use one of these options:
- Enter the serial number and MAC address.
- Scan the serial number bar code.
- Scan the QR code.
- Tap Access Point as the device type and follow the prompts to scan the network.
Standalone Mode:
- Because standalone mode is not the default management mode for the AP, you must log in to the AP and change the management mode. However, we recommend that you use the NETGEAR Insight management mode because some features are supported only in Insight mode. (See the features in the Feature section above.)
- For a new AP in factory default state, to change the management mode to standalone mode, use a mobile device or tablet to connect to the default SSID NETGEARXXXXXX-SETUP with password sharedsecret, and access the local browser UI with the aplogin.net or aplogin.com URL. Or, if the AP is connected over Ethernet to a local network and you know the APs’ IP address, log in from a computer.
To access the local browser UI, use the are admin and password credentials. - On the “Day Zero” configuration page, select the “Web Browser” mode and then configure the device admin password, SSID, WiFi password, and other information.
- After initial configuration, to change the management mode to standalone mode, in the local browser UI, go to Configuration > System > Basic > Management Mode. Then, select Web browser and click the Apply button.
- For an AP in standalone mode, you must update the firmware manually.
- To download latest firmware, visit https://smbbeta.netgear.com/. After you are logged in to beta portal, select the “WAX605” project and go to the “RESOURCES” tab.
- To update the firmware, in the local browser UI, go to Management > Maintenance > Upgrade, and then navigate to and select the firmware that you have downloaded.
