IEEE 802.3x flow control works by pausing a port if the port becomes oversubscribed (that is, the port receives more traffic than it can process) and dropping all traffic for small bursts of time until the port is no longer congested.

You can enable or disable flow control for an individual port. By default, flow control is disabled for all ports.

Enabling flow control and changing the link speed on the router can be useful for congestion management, and the reliability of network traffic.

To manage flow control, and link speed for ports:

1. Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to the router network.

2. In the address field of your browser, enter https://www.routerlogin.net.

The login page displays.

3. Enter admin and the password. The password is the one that you specified when you set up the router. The username and password are case-sensitive.

The Dashboard page displays.

4. Select LAN > Port Settings.

The Port Settings page displays.

5. For each port, select the Flow Control check box.

6. Under Link Speed menu for each port you can change the negotiation speed of a port or you can keep the default Auto Negotiation setting which depends on the port.

  • The LAN1, LAN2, and LAN3 ports support 2.5 Gbps, 1 Gbps, or 100 Mbps.
  • The LAN4 port supports 10 Gbps or 1 Gbps.
  • The LAN5 port or WAN2 port (depending on whether the port functions as the LAN 5 port or the WAN2 port in a dual WAN configuration) supports 10 Gbps, 5 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, 1 Gbps, or 100 Mbps.
  • The WAN1 port supports 2.5 Gbps, 1 Gbps, or 100 Mbps.

7. Click the Apply button.

Your settings are saved.
