When you reserve an IP address for a device on your local area network (LAN), that device is always assigned the same IP address each time it accesses the router’s DHCP server.

You might want to assign reserved IP addresses to computers or servers that need permanent IP settings to work correctly. You can reserve IP addresses from your router’s web interface.

To reserve an IP address on your NETGEAR router:

  1. Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to your router’s network.
  2. Enter https://www.routerlogin.net.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 Your browser might display a security message, which you can ignore.
    A login window displays.
  3. Enter the router user name and password.
    The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time that you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
    The Dashboard page displays.
  4. Select LAN > Static DHCP Leases.
    The Static DHCP Leases page displays.
  5. In the Static DHCP Leases section, click or tap the + button.
  6. In the IP Address field, type in the IP address to assign to the computer or server.
    Choose an IP address from the router’s LAN subnet, such as 192.168.1.x.
  7. Type the MAC address of the computer or server.
    If the computer is already on your network, you can copy its MAC address from the Attached Devices page and paste it in.
  8. Add the name of the device by adding it in the Device Name field.
  9. Click or tap the Apply button.
    The reserved address is entered into the table.
     

The address you reserved is not assigned to your computer until the next time the computer contacts the router’s DHCP server. To assign the reserved address, reboot the computer, or access its IP configuration to force a DHCP release and renew.
