If you can't connect to your wireless access point's (AP) SSID, try these troubleshooting tips.

If your wireless device cannot see your SSID:

  • Make sure that your SSID is enabled and not hidden. For more information about how to configure your SSID, see your AP's user manual.
  • If your wireless device is far away from your AP, try moving your wireless device closer to your AP.
  • Move your wireless device to reduce the number of walls or large objects between your wireless device and your AP. If possible, move your wireless device to a location with clear line of sight to your AP.
  • Make sure that your wireless device can use the same radio bands as your SSID. For example, wireless devices that have only 2.4 GHz radios cannot see SSIDs on 5 GHz bands. For more information about which radio bands your wireless device supports, see your wireless device's user manual.

If your wireless device can see your SSID but cannot connect:

  • Make sure that you connect to the correct SSID and use the correct password.
  • Verify that your wireless device supports the type of authentication and encryption that your SSID uses. For example, your SSID might use WPA3 but your wireless device might support only WPA2 or below. For more information about which types of authentication and encryption your wireless device supports, see your wireless device's user manual. For more information about how to change your SSID's authentication and encryption settings, see your AP's user manual.
  • If your SSID uses an access control list (ACL) to determine which devices can connect, make sure that the ACL allows your wireless device to connect. For more information about configuring an ACL, see your AP's user manual.

You can also try these general troubleshooting tips if your wireless device cannot see or connect to your SSID:

  • Verify that your wireless AP is running the latest firmware. For more information about how to update your AP's firmware, see your AP's user manual.
  • Update your wireless device to the latest software and driver versions. For more information about how to update your wireless device, see your wireless device's user manual.
  • Try using a different wireless channel. For more information about how to change your AP's wireless channel, see your AP's user manual.
