NETGEAR mobile hotspots connect to cellular towers using the same technology found in cellphones. Therefore, mobile hotspots are subject to the same sorts of connectivity considerations as cellphones. The following are some guidelines for where to place your hotspot.
We recommend placing your hotspot close to a window. Signal strength might vary depending on location. We recommend walking around the area where you plan to use your hotspot, with your device in hand, to find where you receive the best performance.
Things that might negatively impact your cellular signal:
- Large buildings or trees
- Thick or dense walls made of concrete, brick, or metal
- Electronic appliances such as microwave ovens, robot vacuums, baby monitors, and cordless phones
- Reflective surfaces like mirrors
- Fish tanks and water coolers
Placement Tips
- Place your hotspot close to a window with no obstructions.
- Make sure that your hotspot is placed in an elevated location and not on the floor.
- Do not place your hotspot inside of a cupboard or other enclosure.
Using the signal indicator on the dashboard
The signal indicator is at the top left of the dashboard screen. Use the indicator to find the best signal strength by walking around the location where you intend to use your hotspot.
