If your Insight Instant Mesh network is not working properly, you might experience the following symptoms:
- Wireless clients that are connected to your extender access points (APs) cannot access the Internet, or Internet access is slow.
- The Insight network location Mesh Mode setting in the Insight Cloud Portal is set to Disable Mesh even after manually setting it to Auto.
To troubleshoot your Insight Instant Mesh network, try the following:
- By default, your root and extender APs automatically select a WiFi channel. If the selected WiFi channel is a Dynamic Frequency Selection (DFS) channel, you might have to wait up to 10 minutes before WiFi access is available. For more information about DFS channels, see What is Dynamic Frequency Selection and how does it work with my NETGEAR device?.
- If the Insight network location Mesh Mode setting in the Insight Cloud Portal is set to Disable Mesh even after manually setting it to Auto, connect your root and extender APs to your network using Ethernet cables, then set the Insight network location Mesh Mode to Auto in the Insight Cloud Portal. For more information about how to set the Insight network location mesh mode, see How do I change my Insight network location's mesh mode using the Insight Cloud Portal?.
- Make sure that your AP's Mesh Mode setting is not set to Disable Mesh. For more information about how to set your AP's mesh mode, see How do I change an access point's mesh mode using the Insight Cloud Portal?.
- Make sure that your root and extender APs are using the same WiFi channel. If you are using automatic channel selection, make sure that all of your root and extender APs are configured for automatic channel selection. For more information about setting the WiFi channel for your APs using Insight, see How do I manually tune RF channels for my Insight Managed Wireless Access Point in Insight?.
- If your extender AP has a wired network connection, make sure that the wired connection does not create a network loop. For more information about network loops, see What is a network loop?.
- Check the backhaul signal strength between your root and extender APs in the Mesh Topology page. If the signal is weak, reduce the distance between your root and extender APs or move your root and extender APs until they have clear line of sight to each other. For more information about how to access the Mesh Topology page, see How do I view my mesh WiFi network topology in the Insight Cloud Portal?.
