My WAX615, WAX625, WAX628, or WAX630E access point won't power up after a firmware update; what do I do?

Your WAX615, WAX625, WAX628, or WAX630E access point (AP) might fail to power up after a firmware update. This issue affects the following models and firmware versions:

  • All WAX615 models with firmware version 10.2.0.17 or earlier.
  • All WAX625 models with firmware version 10.2.5.8 or earlier.
  • All WAX628 models with firmware version 10.2.6.5 or earlier.
  • All WAX630E models with firmware version 10.2.0.17 or earlier.

If your AP fails to power up after a firmware update, your AP shows the following symptoms:

  • Your AP's status in Insight is offline.
  • Your AP's Power/Cloud LED is solid amber.

To recover a WAX615, WAX625, WAX628, or WAX630E AP that fails to power on after a firmware update:

  1. Remove your AP from your Insight account. For more information, see How do I remove a device from my Insight account?.
  2. Repeat the following steps until your AP's Power/Cloud LED blinks amber.

You might need to repeat these steps up to 5 times.

    1. Power off your AP by disconnecting it from its power source.

If your AP is powered by an AC adapter, disconnect the AC adapter from your AP. If your AP is powered by Power over Ethernet (PoE), disconnect the Ethernet cable from your AP.

    2. Power on your AP by reconnecting its power source.
    3. Wait at least 60 seconds for your AP to power on.
Your AP powers on using the previously installed version of the firmware.
  3. Manually update your AP's firmware to the latest version using the device UI. For more information about how to manually update your AP's firmware, see your AP's user manual.
  4. If your AP fails to power on after manually updating the firmware, repeat the procedure starting at step 2.
  5. Add your AP to your Insight account. For more information, see How do I discover, add, and register switches, access points, and Orbi Pro WiFi Systems in Insight?.
