Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is used to secure data that is sent over the Internet. Unlike HTTP, HTTPS encrypts the data that is sent to and from the HTTPS-supported website.

On most NETGEAR routers, you can enable HTTPS for the router web interface (routerlogin.net). This means that all sensitive information that you enter in your router web interface is protected.

If you enable HTTPS on your NETGEAR router, your browser might warn you about an invalid security certificate when you access routerlogin.net. This is normal, and visiting routerlogin.net is safe. Follow your browser's prompts to continue to routerlogin.net.

To enable HTTPS when accessing your NETGEAR router:

  1. Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to your router’s network.
  2. Enter www.routerlogin.net.
    A login window displays.
  3. Enter the router admin user name and password.
    The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time that you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
    The BASIC page or Dashboard displays.
  4. Select ADVANCED > Advanced Setup > Web Services Management.
    Some models might use slightly different menu labels, like Settings > Advanced Settings > Web Services Management.
  5. Select Always Use HTTPS to Access Router.
  6. Click or tap Apply.
    HTTPS router access is enabled.
