Apple iCloud Private Relay is a new optional feature introduced in Apple iOS 15, iPadOS 15, and macOS Monterey. If an Apple device in your household uses the latest OS release and meets the following criteria, it can use Private Relay:
- Is subscribed to iCloud+
- Has Private Relay enabled
- Uses Safari for web browsing
Private Relay encrypts Internet traffic when using Safari for web browsing. If you use Private Relay on a device in your household, it masks traffic from your router and makes the following NETGEAR Armor features unavailable for your Apple device:
- Web security
- Brute force protection
- Exploit prevention
- Denial of service (DoS) protection
- Sensitive data protection
Even if Private Relay is enabled, the Vulnerability Assessment Scan in NETGEAR Armor will still run on the devices in your household.
To take full advantage of NETGEAR Armor features for your Apple device, you must use one of the following workarounds:
Disable Private Relay
We recommend that you disable Private Relay to keep all NETGEAR Armor features protecting your device.
For iOS or iPadOS devices:
- On your affected iOS or iPadOS device, open the Settings app.
- Select Apple ID > iCloud > Private Relay.
- Disable Private Relay.
For macOS devices:
- On your affected macOS device, open the System Preferences menu.
- Select Apple ID > iCloud.
- Locate Private Relay in the list and click Options.
- Click Turn Off.
Install Bitdefender Local Protection
You can install Bitdefender local protection on your Apple device. The local protection app provides web protection and exploit prevention features even when you use Private Relay.
