Fixed issue:
- After the firmware is upgraded to V1.0.0.5, there is a chance that the configuration setting cannot be saved.
WARNING:
- There was an issue with v1.0.0.0. VLANs and Link Aggression stop working when GSS116E is booted up and when the firmware is being upgraded from v1.0.0.0. The issue is fixed in v1.0.0.2 or newer versions.
- Once you upgrade your firmware to v1.0.0.5 or newer, you will no longer be able to use the ProSAFE Plus Utility versions prior to v2.4.3 to manage your GSS116E Click Switch. You will need to download the latest ProSAFE Plus Utility from http://www.netgear.com/support/product/PCU
- Upgrade your GSS116E to firmware version V1.0.0.6. If the bootloader version is older than V1.0.0.5, it’s required to log in to the web GUI to upgrade the bootloader to version V1.0.0.5
Upgrade Procedure using the ProSAFE Plus Utility:
1. Download the zipped firmware v1.0.0.6 from the NETGEAR product support website and save it on your local PC. Unzip it to the file to extract the switch firmware image GSS116E_V1.0.0.6.bin and bootloader image GSS116E_LOADER_V1.0.0.5.bin.
2. Download the ProSAFE Plus Utility v2.4.3 (or later version) from http://www.netgear.com/support/product/PCU
3. Decompress the ProSAFE_Plus_Utility_v2.4.3.zip (or later version).
4. Install the ProSAFE Plus Utility by double-clicking the ProSAFE Plus Utility 2.4.3.exe (or later version).
5. Connect your computer to the same network as your GSS116E switch.
6. Double-click the ProSAFE Plus Utility icon. The configuration home page displays a list of Web Managed (Plus) Switches on the network.
Note: If you do not see your switch in the network list, click the REFRESH button or close and launch the ProSAFE Plus Utility again. You may also need to configure your computer’s security software to allow broadcast packets to pass through (to/from) your PC’s UDP ports 63321-63324. To allow this traffic, you can create a rule in your computer’s security software, or temporarily disable the firewall, antivirus programs, or all on the computer. If you temporarily disable any security services, be sure to re-enable those services when the firmware upgrade is completed.
7. Select the GSS116E switch that you want to upgrade the firmware on.
8. When prompted, enter the password for the GSS116E switch in the password field.
The default password is password.
9. Select System > Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade.
The Firmware Upgrade page displays.
10. Click the BROWSE button to locate and select the firmware file GSS116E_V1.0.0.6.bin on your PC.
11. Click the Apply button.
Warning: Do not interrupt the network connection while in progress. Do not disconnect the Ethernet cable or power off the unit until the process is complete. The upgrade may take several minutes even though you may not see any activity on the screen.
12. When the upgrade is complete, your switch restarts. The upgrade process typically takes about two minutes.
13. Once the new firmware is successfully loaded (onto the switch), your GSS116E will automatically reboot itself. Wait at least 1 minute for the reboot to complete.
14. Open a web browser and enter the IP address of the GSS116E into the address bar and log in to the switch management GUI.
15. If the loader version is V1.0.0.5 already, steps 16~18 will be skipped.
16. You are going to be prompted immediately to upgrade the bootloader. Click the BROWSE button and select the new bootloader code GSS116E_LOADER_V1.0.0.5.bin from the location on your computer where you unzipped the firmware files.
17. Click the APPLY button.
Warning: Do not interrupt the network connection while in progress. Do not disconnect the Ethernet cable or power off the unit until the process is complete. The upgrade may take several minutes even though you may not see any activity on the screen.
18. When the new bootloader code is successfully loaded (onto the switch), your GSS116E will automatically reboot.
Upgrade Procedure using the Web browser
WARNING:
If your firmware version is prior to v1.0.0.2, you must first upgrade your firmware to v1.0.0.2. After upgrading the firmware to v1.0.0.2, upgrade the bootloader version to v1.0.0.5, then finally the firmware to v1.0.0.6.
1. Download the zipped firmware v1.0.0.6 from the NETGEAR product support Website and save it on your local PC. Unzip it to the file to extract the switch firmware image GSS116E_V1.0.0.6.bin and bootloader image GSS116E_LOADER_V1.0.0.5.bin.
2. If the firmware version of your GSS116E is v1.0.0.2 or above, you can go to Step 8 directly. If the firmware version of your GSS116E is v1.0.0.0, please go to Step 3.
3. Download the firmware v1.0.0.2 (GSS116E_V1.0.0.2.zip) from the NETGEAR product support Website and save it on your local PC. Unzip it to the file to extract the switch firmware image GSS116E_V1.0.0.2.bin.
4. log in to your GSS116E. Go to GUI page “System > Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade
5. Click the Browse button and locate and select the new firmware image file GSS116E_V1.0.0.2.bin.
6. Click the Apply button.
7. When the upgrade is complete, your switch restarts. The upgrade process typically takes about two minutes.
8. log in to your GSS116E. Type http://x.x.x.x/loader_upg.htm (x.x.x.x represents your GSS116E’s IP address. ex: http://192.168.0.239/loader_upg.htm )
9. Click the Browse button and locate and select the new bootloader image file GSS116E_LOADER_V1.0.0.5.bin.
10. Click the Apply button.
11. When the upgrade is complete, your switch restarts. The upgrade process typically takes about two minutes.
12. Login to your GSS116E. Go to GUI page “System > Maintenance > Firmware Upgrade
13. Click the Browse button and locate and select the new firmware image file GSS116E_V1.0.0.6.bin.
14. Click the Apply button.
15. When the upgrade is complete, your switch restarts. The upgrade process typically takes about two minutes.
