Your M4300 or M4250 OOB port defaults on IP address 192.168.0.239 and subnet mask 255.255.255.0. when no DHCP server is detected. Your VLAN 1 can’t obtain an IP address on the same range and so the VLAN 1 doesn’t get an IP address, which leaves it with its default IP address 169.254.100.100. In order to use a DHCP address from the 192.168.0.0/24, you need to acquire a new IP address for your switches VLAN 1.
To use a DHCP IP address from a 192.168.0.0/24 DHCP server on VLAN 1 for my M4300 or M4250 switch:
- Prepare your computer with a static IP address in the 192.168.0./16 subnet with subnet mask 255.255.0.0.
- Connect an Ethernet cable from an Ethernet port on your computer to the OOB port on the switch.
- Launch a web browser.
- Enter your switch's default IP address 192.168.0.239 into the web browser.
- Enter admin as the user name, enter your local device password, and click the Login button.
The first time that you log in, no password is required. However, you then must specify a local device password to use each subsequent time that you log in.
The System Information page displays. - From here, where do I go to disable the DHCP client for the OOB port? Go to System\Management\Management Interfaces\IPv4 Service Port Configuration
- Select “None” for Service Port Configuration Protocol, and enter a static IP address in another subnet other than 192.168.0.0/24. You can leave the Default Gateway to 0.0.0.0.
- Click Apply.
- Remove the Ethernet cable from your switch's OOB port.
- Connect an Ethernet cable from an Ethernet port on your computer to an inband Ethernet port your switch.
Your switch is now using a 192.168.0.0/24 IP address on its VLAN 1.
