The GS516UP and GS524UP unmanaged switches are power sourcing equipment (PSE) that transmit 60W of Power over Ethernet (PoE++) to devices when connected. The devices that receive power are called powered devices (PDs). Your unmanaged switch is set to the default PoE mode 802.3bt standard. Pre-802.3bt PDs cannot operate using 802.3bt standard, which is why you must use the PoE Mode switches to change the PoE mode. The following explains when to change the PoE mode:
For pre-802.3bt PDs connected to a GS516UP or GS524UP unmanaged switch:
- If the unmanaged switch is set to 802.3bt standard mode:
- The PD receives up to 30W of power.
- The pre-802.3bt PD does not power on.
- The PoE mode must be set to pre-802.3bt.
- If the unmanaged switch is set to pre-802.3bt mode:
- The PD receives up to 60W of power.
- The pre-802.3bt PD can power on.
- The PoE mode doesn't need to be changed.
For 802.3bt standard PDs connected to a GS516UP or GS524UP unmanaged switch:
- If the unmanaged switch is set to 802.3bt standard mode:
- The PD receives up to 60W of power.
- The 802.3bt PD can power on.
- The PoE mode doesn't need to be changed.
- If the unmanaged switch is set to pre-802.3bt mode:
- The PD only receives 30W of power.
- The 802.3bt PD does not power on.
- The PoE mode must be set to 802.3bt.
