All Netgear cable modems or cable modem routers are certified by all major Cable ISPs in the United States. All Netgear cable voice modems are certified by Xfinity.
The activation processes for Netgear devices is simple and can be done using 2 different methods:
1. Manual activation
Contact your ISP’s customer services by calling their support number. This is the most commonly used method for most ISPs except Xfinity (Comcast).
2. Self-activation
Xfinity (Comcast) prefers you to activate your device using their self-activation service available at http://xfinity.com/activate. In the majority of cases, Xfinity customers will be taken to the self-activation page as soon as they open a web browser.
More detailed activation and setup steps can be found in the Quick Start Guide of the model that you purchased.
Below is the list of the activation contact numbers of the most popular Cable ISPs:

Note: Your ISP’s contact information may change. You can find the most recent contact information for your ISP on your monthly Internet service billing statement.
For cable ISPs that require certification, they post a list of approved retail modems that have been certified for use with their network. If cable ISPs do not require certification of modems, they normally accept and active the retail modems that their customers provide.
