NETGEAR regularly releases firmware updates to improve product performance, add new features, and enhance security.
On most cable modem routers (also known as gateways), the device firmware is updated automatically by your Internet service provider (ISP) and you cannot update it manually. NETGEAR CAX-series cable modem routers and CBR-series cable Orbi routers are different from typical cable modem routers; they use separate router firmware and cable firmware.
You can update the router firmware manually, but only your ISP can update the cable firmware. You can update the firmware with the Nighthawk or Orbi app, through a web browser, or by manually downloading a specific firmware version and installing it.
