When you update your NETGEAR GS724TPv2 switch to firmware version 2.0.0.16, you have access to NETGEAR’s Insight Remote and Cloud Management as an optional management mode. To gain full Insight Remote and Cloud Management access, you must register your GS724TPv2 switch. For more information, see Why do I need to register my NETGEAR switch?.
The GS724TPv2 model comes with an older firmare version and reguires additional steps to update the firmare verison 2.0.0.16 release.
Yolu can download system files from a remote system to your NETGEAR switch by using either TFTP, Smart Control Central (SCC), or HTTP. We recommend that you update the firmware using HTTP. You can download a software (firmware) image, configuration files, and SSL files from a computer to the switch by using an HTTP session over a web browser. Note: Updating the firmware from v1.1.1.x to v2.0.0.x erases any existing configurations. Configuration files are not compatible between v1.x.x.x and v2.x.x.x firmware. If you update your switch to new firmware, you must reconfigure all of your settings.
To update your GS724TPv2 to the firmware version 2.0.0.16 using HTTP:
- Connect your computer to the same network as the swtich.
You can use a WiFi or wired connection to connect your computer to the network, or connect directly to a switch that is off-network using an Ethernet cable.
- Launch a web browser.
- Visit NETGEAR Support.
- Enter your router’s Model Number or Product Name.
- Click Downloads.
- Select firmware version 2.0.0.16 and click Download.
- Unzip the file if needed.
- In the address field of your web browser, enter the IP address of the switch.
If you do not know the IP address of the switch, see your user manual.
The Local Device Login page displays.
If you did not yet register the switch with your NETGEAR account, you might see the Register to unlock all features page. For more information, see How do I register my NETGEAR Smart Managed Pro switch?
- Enter one of the following passwords:
- After the initial login, enter your local device password. By default, the local device password is password. You must change this password at initial login.
- If you previously managed the switch using Insight, enter the Insight network password for the last Insight network location.
- Click Login.
The System Information page displays.
- Select Maintenance > Download > HTTP File Download.
Note: To upgrade the firmware to v2.0.0.16 from v1.1.x.x, you must upgrade in the following order: V1.1.1.x.rom => V1.1.50.39.rom => V2.0.0.16.img => V2.0.0.16.bix.
The HTTP File Download window displays.
If the current active image is set to image 1 and you want to download the new firmware to image 2:
- Set File Type as Archive.
- Change Image Name to Image 2.
- Click BROWSE.
- Select the firmware file GS724TPv2_V1.1.50.39.rom.
- Click Apply.
The firmware starts to download.
The page displays information about the progress of the file transfer. After a file starts, wait until the page refreshes. When the page refreshes, the option to select a file is no longer available, indicating that the file transfer is complete.
- After the file is downloaded, select Maintenance > File Management > Dual Image > Dual Image Configuration.
If the current-active image is ‘image1’:
- Set Image Name as Image2.
- Select the Active Image check box.
- Click Apply.
- Select Maintenance > File Management > Dual Image > Dual Image Status.
- Double check that the Next-active image is version 1.1.50.39. If not, go back to step 12 and reconfigure the correct active image.
- Go to Maintenance > Reset > Device Reboot.
- Select the check box.
- Click Apply.
The restart might take several minutes; do not power cycle or reboot the switch until the process completes.
Note: If you do not reboot the switch, it continues running the image shown in the Current-active field until the next time the switch reboots.
- After the switch restarts, log in to the switch again.
- Select System > Management > System Information to verify that the firmware updated correctly.
- Next, repeat step 11 to download Firmware GS724TPv2_V2.0.0.16.img to the switch.
- After upgrading to v2.0.0.16.img, click the Local Device Login link to log in.
Note: Do not register the switch using this firmware.
- Change the default password to a unique password.
- After logging inselecr Maintenance > Update > HTTP Firmware/File Update
If the current image name is image 1 and you want to download the new firmware to image 2:
- Set File Type as Software.
- Set Image Name as Image2.
- Click Browse.
- Select firmware GS724TPv2_GS724TPP_V2.0.0.16.bix
- Click APPLY.
- After successfully downloading the file, select Maintenance > File Management > Dual Image > Dual Image Configuration
- Set Image Name as ‘Image2’.
- Select the Active Image check box.
- Click Apply.
- Repeat step 15 through 18.
You are now using the firmware version 2.0.0.16 and have access to Insight Remote and Cloud management.
