How can I use my NETGEAR AirBridge to connect my outdoor video surveillance cameras to my network?
Your NETGEAR AirBridges enable you to centrally manage your video surveillance networks that are located outdoors or at different locations. You can connect your surveillance devices to your network in any of the following ways:
  • Extend your network by using three or more AirBridges in a master-to-satellite setup.
  • Provide long range WiFi services with an access point setup.
  • Provide a WiFi connection to devices that are not WiFi capable in an access point-to-client bridge setup.
To connect your surveillance cameras to your network in a master-to-satellite setup:
  1. Configure your AirBridge as a master and another AirBridge as a satellite.

  3. At each detached site, power on your AirBridge satellite.

    Your AirBridge satellite reestablishes a WiFi connection to your AirBridge master.

    Make sure your signal strength is good. For more information, see What factors affect signal strength between my NETGEAR AirBridge devices?.

  4. Connect the AirBridge satellite to one or more security devices, such as cameras:
    1. A single wired security device:
      1. Connect an Ethernet cable to connect your AirBridge's LAN1 (PoE-24V) port to the security device's Ethernet port.
    2. Multiple wired security devices:
      1. For each device, connect an Ethernet cable from the AirBridge satellite's power adapter LAN port to a switch.
      2. With another Ethernet cable, connect your security device's Ethernet port to the switch.
    3. Multiple wireless security devices:
      1. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the AirBridge satellite's power adapter LAN port to the access point.

        You can use a non-AirBridge device as an access point, or you can configure another AirBridge as an access point. For more information, see How do I configure my AirBridge into an access point?.

All security cameras are now connected over the WiFi connection in an AirBridge master to AirBridge satellite setup.

To connect your surveillance cameras to your network in an access point setup:
  1. Configure your AirBridge as an access point.

  2. Connect your security device to one of the access point's 5 GHz SSIDs.

    Your security devices are connected to the network through the access point.

To connect your surveillance cameras to your network in an access-point-to-client bridge setup:
  1. Configure one AirBridge as an access point.
  2. Configure another AirBridge as a client bridge.

  3. At a detached site, mount your AirBridge client bridge.

    For more information on how to mount your satellite, see the hardware installation guide.

  4. Power on your AirBridge client bridge.

    Because of the AirBridge's powerful antenna, line of sight is not important for signal strength.

  5. Use an Ethernet cable to connect the AirBridge client bridge power adapter LAN port to your security device.

    Your security device is now provided a WiFi connection.
