How do I manually update the firmware on my NETGEAR WiFi Extender?

NETGEAR regularly releases firmware updates to improve product performance, add new features, and enhance security. To ensure that new features are available on your extender, make sure that it is running the latest firmware.

To manually update the firmware:

  1. Make sure that your extender is connected to your router's WiFi.
  2. Connect to your extender's WiFi network.

    Your router and extender might have different WiFi network names (SSIDs). Verify that you are connected to your extender's network.

  3. Visit NETGEAR Support.
  4. Enter your extender's Model Number or Product Name.
  5. Click Downloads.
  6. Select a firmware version and click Download.
  7. Unzip the file if needed.
  8. Open a web browser and enter mywifiext.net.
    A login page displays.
  9. Enter the extender admin user name and password.
    The Status page displays.
    The user name and password are the ones you specified the first time you logged in. The user name and password are case-sensitive.
  10. Click Firmware Update.
  11. Click the Browse button, then locate and select the firmware file that ends in .img or .chk.
  12. Click the Upload button.
    The firmware update starts and the extender restarts. The firmware update process takes about two minutes.
    Warning: After you click the Upload button, do not try to go online, turn off the extender, shut down the computer, or do anything else to the extender until it finishes restarting.
