The Nighthawk app’s Traffic Meter feature lets you monitor the volume of data that is uploaded and downloaded on your home network. Unlike a speed test, which measures how fast your connection is, the Traffic Meter helps you understand how much you are using your Internet connection and when you use it the most. You can view the total amount of data transferred on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis. You can also view average totals of your traffic on a weekly or monthly basis.

The Traffic Meter only tracks the amount of data transferred over your network. It does not analyze specific types of Internet activity. If you want to view a complete analysis of traffic on your network, you might want to consider NETGEAR Smart Parental Controls. For more information, see the Smart Parental Controls product page.

To enable or disable the Traffic Meter in the Nighthawk app:

  1. Launch the Nighthawk app from a mobile device that is connected to your wireless network.
    The Dashboard displays.
  2. If you do not currently have Internet access on your home network, tap the menu in the upper left corner of the screen, tap your model number, and select Connected Locally if it is not already selected.
If you are Connected via Anywhere Access, you must have an Internet connection to make changes to your router or modem's settings.
  3. Tap the Traffic Meter tile.
  4. Tap the toggle next to Enable.
If Traffic meter is enabled, the toggle background appears green. If Traffic Meter is disabled, the toggle background appears gray.
  5. Tap the Back icon at the top left.
    Your settings are saved.
